Skyrim: The Mind of Madness — Where to Start, Puzzles, and Rewards

The Mind of Madness has one standard starting method and three puzzles. This guide shows where to begin, how to solve each puzzle, and what rewards are available.

Ways to Start

The quest has one standard starting method.

  1. Speak with Dervenin near the Bards College in Solitude

Dervenin wanders near the Bards College in Solitude and asks for help bringing his master back from the Pelagius Wing of the Blue Palace.

Puzzles

Pelagius' mind contains three trials. Complete each one with the Wabbajack.

Pelagius' Confidence

Use the Wabbajack twice on Anger to shrink him, then twice on Confidence to make him grow. Confidence shrinks whenever Anger is hit, so complete both actions to tip the balance fully in Confidence's favor.

Pelagius' Night Terrors

Use the Wabbajack on the sleeping Pelagius to summon a terror, then use it once on the newly appeared hostile creature. Repeat this sequence for the wolf, bandit chief, hagraven, flame atronach, and dragon priest. Do not attack the harmless creatures they become, and ignore any atronach summoned by the dragon priest.

Pelagius' Paranoia

Ignore the fighting Storm Atronachs. Use the Wabbajack on each of the two bodyguards beside the opposing man; they will transform and attack him.

Rewards

  • Wabbajack

    A unique Daedric artifact staff.

  • Fine Clothes

A matching set of fine clothing.
